9th Annual Veterans Appreciation Event

Everyone is welcome to attend the 9th Annual Veterans Appreciation event hosted by the Lab Directorate and the IDEA office.

After several years of virtual-only events, this year we’re happy to announce that we’ll be holding a hybrid event! Programming will take place on zoom and there will be in-person and virtual spaces to gather afterwards.

Mike Witherell, Michael Brandt, and Aditi Chakravarty will each speak and thank our veterans for their service to the Lab and our nation. There will be an update from VERG leadership, information on veteran outreach activities, we will celebrate outgoing co-chair Abiola Ashorobi and the election of the new VERG co-chair Stephany Tone, and we’ll have a chance to connect in small groups whether we’re in person or online.

The event is open to all veterans and all lab employees, so please share this invitation with anyone who might be interested in joining us.

Volunteer Opportunity: Support Operation Gratitude

For the month of November, in honor of Veterans Day, VERG is hosting a virtual volunteering campaign supporting the work of Operation Gratitude.

Operation Gratitude is one of the largest and most impactful nonprofits in the country for hands-on volunteerism in support of military, veterans, and first responders. The group has sent over three million care packages since 2003. Their virtual volunteer activities include:

  • Handmade with Love - create a unique gift for a care package

  • Paracord Bracelets - functional and meaningful bracelets that can be used in emergencies

  • Write Letters - every care package includes handwritten letters to express appreciation and gratitude to the recipients

In honor of Veterans Day, join Minh Huebner, Berkeley Lab CFO and VERG Executive Sponsor, and VERG members Bill Ou, Phillip McCants, and Stephany Tone, for a discussion about the Veteran employee experience, the role that service plays in Veterans lives, and the skills that Veterans bring to the Lab.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 8th Annual Veterans Appreciation Event on November 17th – Please join us!

Hosted by the Lab Directorate and the IDEA Office, the event will feature Mike Witherell, Michael Brandt and VERG Executive Sponsor Minh Huebner who will thank our veterans for their service to the Lab and our nation. We will also celebrate outgoing co-chair Jason Bush and the election of the new VERG co-chair Kevin Nguy.

There will be an update on veteran outreach activities, we’ll welcome new employees and also have a chance to connect in small groups.
